24th edition, from 13 to 17 August Park Den Brandt, Antwerp

Jazz of outstanding quality. Unique surroundings. The cosy atmosphere. It's own, particular image. For more than 30 years
Jazz Middelheim has upheld a tradition. Practically everyone who's anyone in the jazz world has paid their respects here.

This year the programme reflects today's fragmented contemporary jazz scene. Up with the times and sometimes against the current. Organised by
Radio 1, Klara and Studio Brussel, Jazz Middelheim continues to send new jazz fans towards sometimes as yet uncharted musical horizons.

Jazz Middelheim is primarily a party. Not the least because of the family atmosphere and overriding congenial character of the festival. There's a lot happening, yet there's an absence of any hustle and bustle. Space enough to listen in comfort and to stretch your legs. There's music for children played by your favourite jazz artists and there's also an exciting festival nursery. There's a specialist CD shop at the ground. Who better to open the festivities than the festival's genial godfather, Toots Thielemans. And a partner who for the last ten years has worked far beyond the call of duty to guarantee the artists's mobility: Opel. Last but not least there's the Festival van Vlaanderen-Antwerpen: a host who's made available the location of your dreams. Jazz Middelheim has now become a sparkling city festival with the added attraction of exciting peripheral activities.

As you well know, jazz is a movement, a way of life, a melting pot of trends and original ideas. Jazz continues to sway between fun and art, between dance and concert. Jazz is the genre par excellence of instantaneous freedom. Transience and improvisation, while being at its core, remain hardly reproducible. And yet we do our best to reproduce the atmosphere, those special moments, via radio, television (
Canvas) and website (live streaming), via our live and pre-recorded programmes that you receive in the comfort of your home. But however hard we try, and we do, it's never as good as the real thing... simply being there.

See you at Jazz Middelheim!
